Citizen

Founded as a time research institute in 1918, the company that would go on to create Citizen watches has always been devoted to the innovation and production of timekeeping technology.  The name "Citizen" was chosen by the early leaders of the company as a label that would be, "close to the hearts of people everywhere," and first appeared on a pocket watch in 1924.  It was not long after that Citizen Watch Company became the organization's official name.
